Since 1993, Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) (national organization) has promoted modern methods of pain and symptom control as well as “whole-person” (holistic) care for patients living with cancer and HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold excellent clinical standards and provide quality education courses and advocacy activities to promote spread of palliative care throughout Uganda and Africa. Hospice Africa Uganda has a head office in Kampala, site offices in Mbarara and Hoima Districts. HAU wishes to recruit dynamic, skilled, and caring Ugandan staff committed to palliative care to fill the following positions:

Location: Kampala (1 post)

Job Purpose: To develop, monitor and review Resource mobilization strategies for sustaining the organization’s programs, identify various funding opportunities and deputize the Chief Executive Director whenever she is away.

Specific Duties:
• Develops and implements a fundraising strategy and plan
• Reviews the organization’s budgets and establishes the program financial needs –gaps in time
• Manages and reviews the preparation of fundable- quality proposals.
• Develops and maintains relations with potential donors.
• Monitors the implementation of the funded projects.
• Follows up project proposals submitted to donors and keeps proper record of all correspondences
• Writes project and accountability reports and submits them to donors.
• Upgrades Hospice profile through information sharing with donors and other stake holders

Minimum Requirements
A post graduate degree in Development studies, Economics, Business, social Sciences, or other related field is essential At least five years of program management experience, including networking, donor communication and relations, resource mobilization and utilization, in a reputable firm, donor agency, public corporation or NGO.

To Provide strategic leadership, Departmental Human Resource Development Strategy & policy development for education and training, systems and processes development for education program delivery, Departmental fund raising, proposal design and Donor reports

Specific Duties:

• Leads in Departmental fund raising, proposal design and Donor reports

Minimum Job Requirements
PHD in Public Health; Education; Public Administration; Social Sector Planning; or Development Studies. At least 10 Years experience in curriculum Development, Managing Training Projects, preferably in a NGO setting

Job Purpose:
To Provide strategic leadership in carrying out and expanding the education and training programs at Hospice, Ministry of Health, universities, nursing schools, home care services and community programs while ensuring that program activities are conducted in line with existing policies and procedures.

Specific Duties:
• Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team and Head of Department
• Takes leadership in developing the overall strategy, policy and programming of education
• Develops systems and processes for the delivery of education program
• Links education and training programs with the appropriate contacts at the national and international levels.
• Prepares funding proposals in conjunction with the Director Donor liaison the His/her Department
• Prepares education program quarterly and annual reports for donors
• Monitors and evaluates the Education Strategic
• Participates in active research in palliative care within HAU and other institutions
• Participates in writing up of palliative care research and papers.
• Develops strategies that ensure quality-training services
• Represents HAU on Examination and Selection Board meetings of Makerere University.

Minimum Requirements
Masters Degree in Education Management, Public Health, Social Sector Planning, Research & Development, At least 6 Years experience in curriculum Development, Managing Training Projects, preferably in a NGO setting

To build on several years experience of implementing Palliative Care education program in Uganda, HAU is undertaking an aggressive campaign to increase education program quality. Essential to program quality improvements will be the implementation of education (Degree and Diploma) monitoring system. Working with HAU staff, donors, government and clients, HAU will seek to gather on a regular schedule quantitative and qualitative data to track the success or failure of the education program interventions. The monitoring data will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of education programs, to redesign education interventions towards improving the delivery of services to our clients, as well as to account to both our clients and donors.

The QA Registrar is responsible for supporting the education team to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation system for HAU education program in the three offices (Makindye, Hoima & Mbarara). The QA registrar will liaise on a regular basis with education staff across the three offices.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Support to education program planning and design
• Provides medical input into carrying out & expanding education & training programs.
• Reviews existing course materials to ensure they are appropriate & relevant to African context.
• Establishes appropriate standards for Education & trainings
• Initiates, develops & is responsible for high quality research, baseline surveys, & evaluations
• Support development and implementation of monitoring system and associated tools to ensure program quality
• Build capacity of HAU Education staff
• Technical representation and networking with HAU network and other NGOs
• Performs monitoring & evaluation functions for education department

Minimum Requirements:
Degree in Medicine or Nursing; preferably post graduate degree in Palliative Care, Education, or Public Health. Experience of program design, monitoring and evaluation essential; Excellent analytical skills essential; Experience of report- and proposal-writing essential; Knowledge of relevant National Council of Higher Education requirements & HAU donor policies preferred; Excellent working knowledge of computer software packages – MS Word, Excel and email applications essential, MS Access / GIS applications an advantage; Commitment to staff development; Clear communication and presentation style essential; Good interpersonal skills essential; Previous experience conducting trainings preferred; 3 years experience preferably in African palliative care.

Job Purpose:
To direct and coordinate student’s registration activities, and daily administrative affairs

Specific Duties:
• Directs and coordinates students registration activities
• Performs statistical data analysis for registration purposes
• Prepares transcripts.
• Compiles information, such as class schedules and graduation requirements
• Offers administrative and logistical support for Degree & Diploma program.

Minimum Requirements
Post graduate Degree in Medicine, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Social Sector Planning or Management. 3 years experience preferably in African palliative care, or in a similar poor resource setting in both clinical & education.
