JOBS AT UIRI

Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) is a dynamic Research and development institution, a parastatal organization under MTTI whose mandate includes engaging in activities that will lead to rapid industrialisation of Uganda. Core activities of the institute include:

  • Establishment of platforms for value addition.
  • Technology Transfer and Technology Development.
  • Product development and design of industrial processes.
  • Enhanced provision of analytical laboratory services.
  • Prototyping of products and processes.
  • Business incubation.
  • Technical skills development and industrial internship among others.

In pursuit of the above, the institute requires services of skilled and experienced personnel for the following positions:

1. MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT: ( 1  POSITION)

This is a senior level position and the successful candidate will report to the Head of Accounts. The position holder will be responsible for enhancing financial performance responsible for budget monitoring and identifying areas for financial improvement within the institute. The specific duties of this position are:

Qualification and Experience:

  • An honors degree from a recognized university in any of the following: B.COM, Business Administration with Accounting/Finance major.
  • Professional qualification in accounting like CPA, ACCA of level 111 or any other accountancy professional body is a Must.

Personal attributes.

  • Not more than 35 years old.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Dynamic with excellent communication skills.

2. INTERNAL AUDITOR: ( 1 POSITION)

The position holder will be responsible for managing the Internal
Audit function.
Qualification and Experience.

  • An MBA degree from a recognized university with at least 3 years experience in a similar position.
  • Professional qualification in accounting like ACCA, CPA level 111 is a Must.

3. REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN: ( 1  POSITION)

Installs, repairs, overhauls, and maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), and cold storage systems. Providing necessary information on the proper use of the equipment; and assisting other skilled trades as required.

Qualification and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, supplemented by approved apprenticeship program in HVAC and refrigeration repair, and three years of responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy and light HVAC equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the HVAC or refrigeration tools, materials, and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and installation techniques.
  • Skill in reading and understanding schematics.
  • Skill in analyzing HVAC or refrigeration malfunctions from performance and test equipment readings and determining appropriate actions.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.

  • Not more than 30 years old.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Dynamic with excellent communication skills.

4. PLANT TECHNICIAN: ( 1  POSITION)

Installs, repairs, overhauls, and maintains food processing equipment.  Providing necessary information on the proper use of the equipment; and assisting other skilled trades as required.

Qualification and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized technical college/institute, supplemented by  three years of responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of food processing  equipment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, and test equipment used in the maintenance and repair of food processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and installation techniques of food processing equipment.
  • Skill in analyzing food processing equipment malfunctions from performance and test equipment readings and determining appropriate actions.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.

  • Not more than 30 years old.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Dynamic with excellent communication skills.

5. ENERGY SYSTEMS ENGINEER: ( 1  POSITION)

The position holder will be responsible for undertaking Research and Development in the Energy Systems Section.

Qualification and Experience:
A graduate of Masters of science or BSc with at least 3 years experience in the following areas:
Energy systems engineering,

  • Renewable Energy
  • Energy and Environment
  • Sustainable Energy Engineering from a recognised institution.

Age: Not more than 31 years.

Renumeration:

  • Salary negotiable depending on qualification and experience.
  • Terms of employment are contract subject to annual review.
